Title: Contingent Emergency Response Component and Environment and Social Management Framework
Abstract: The development objective of the Saramacca Canal System Rehabilitation Project for Suriname is to reduce flood risk for the people and assets in the greater Paramaribo area and improve the operation of the Saramacca canal system. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (1) health care facility (HCF) should strictly conduct waste segregation at the point of generation. Personal protective equipment (PPE) waste should follow internationally adopted methods for packaging, color coding, and labeling; (2) COVID-19 (Coronavirus) can be rapidly inactivated by various chemical disinfectants. Hospital-level disinfecting solutions for waste containers, re-usable PPE, and other supplies should be used in managing health care waste (HCW) in accordance with World Health Organization (WHO) protocols; and (3) train cleaning staff on most effective process for cleaning the facility based on standard procedures.
