Title: The Effects of Social Support of the Elderly Participating in Life Sports on Psychological Well-being
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of social support of the elderly participating in life sports on psychological well-being. This study was conducted on 285 the elderly participating in life sports aged 55 and over who use the hall for the elderly in Jeju city from July to August 2016. For data analysis, PASW 18.0 version was used for frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Variables of this study consisted of factors on social support and psychological well-being; sub-factors on social support were physical support, emotional support, and sociable support and sub-factors on psychological well-being were relationship with others, self-esteem, goal sense, and autonomy. The results are as follow. First, the factor of sociable support had significant effects on the relationship with others. Second, the factors of physical support and emotional support had a significant effect on self-esteem. Third, the factors of emotional support and sociable support had significant effects on goal sense. Fourth, the factor of physical support had significant effects on autonomy. Therefore, in order to enhance the psychological well-being of the elderly, it is necessary to strengthen the social support for the elderly through the promotion of life sports activities and development and provision of the various program.
