Title: Wakefulness After Sleep Onset as Predicting Suicidal Ideation
Abstract: Sleep disturbances may be a key correlate of suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Our previous analyses have demonstrated that wakefulness after sleep onset (WASO) may be a risk factor for next-day suicidal ideation (SI), particularly wakefulness during earlier morning hours. This study is a secondary analysis of previously published wakefulness data, using an expanded sample and updated statistical methods. We hypothesize that increased wakefulness throughout the night, specifically at the 4:00am hour, is correlated with higher SI the following day.
