Abstract: This critical autoethnographic study discusses a Chinese immigrant's identity formation journey through a conceptual de-Chinese and re-Chinese lens. Through arts-based exploration, I investigate the topic of identity formation through individual and cultural/social perspectives and question what drives the complex and endless identity formation process of immigrants. This study explores the subject of negotiating identity through visual and poetic language, as well as personal narratives, and connects to Bhabha's third space theory and Turner's concept of liminality. Through critical autoethnography, this study intends to tease apart the complex issue of immigrants' identity formation and consider its impact on an immigrant/arts therapist/researcher.
