Culture, language, dialects, rituals, customs, traditions, religious beliefs and ideologies changes frequently as one moves from one part to another in the country. Cultural diversity is also found in the schools in India. Schools where students and teachers come from different cultural backgrounds always try to manage this diversity so that teachers can perform well and students can learn at their optimal level. But sometimes, if they can’t adjust themselves in these situations it becomes challenging and extremely stressful (Brislin, 2000; Hofstede, 2001). Teachers are considered as a builder of the nation and always provide support and maintain a classroom environment for their students Thus, it calls upon the teachers to change their roles to meet the challenges raised due to cultural diversity. This paper is an attempt to focus on the significance of cultural intelligence (CQ) for teachers in dealing with the cultural diversity which exists within and outsides of schools. Effectively managing diversity helps teachers to perform well in a diverse cultural environment and in improving the teaching effectiveness along with learning outcomes. The present paper stress to share ideas about intercultural demographics in Indian classrooms and develop teacher education programmes which should also be focusing upon developing the cultural competence among the teachers.Read More
