Title: A Study on the Financial Performance of Private Sector Banks in India
Abstract: Banking sector is an important component of Indian financial system. It has a very sound and strong impact on the economic development and growth of the nation. For an overall development of economy and country, a well & proper performing banking sector is must and a precondition also. In present time, a cut throat competition is prevailing in Indian banking sector. Private sector banks are playing a very big part in the Indian banking sector and giving a very tough competition to public sector banks. Various stakeholders are associated with these private sector banks and that is why it is necessary and very important to know & measure the financial performance of private sector banks. The present study is made to measure and analyze the financial performance and efficiency of some selected Indian private sector banks. The objective of the present study is to identify financial performance of the selected private sector banks I n India and also to examine whether there is any big and significant difference exists among their performance. The study is based on secondary data and some financial ratios have been applied in this study. The important conclusion of the present study is that comparatively, HDFC bank and Kotak Mahindra bank have shown a good performance, while some other banks having some weak performance in some particular area/ratios.
