Title: Preventive effects of Shuidouchi (fermented soybean) extract in oxazolone-induced BALB/C mice colitis
Abstract: In this study, animal experiments were used to study the preventive effect of Shuidouchi extract on colitis. The preventive effect of Shuidouchi extract on oxazolone-induced experimental colitis was evaluated by observing the colon of mice and simultaneously determining the related indexes of serum and colon of mice. The results showed that Shuidouchi extract could significantly reduce DAI in mice with colitis (p < 0.05), inhibit the shortening of colon length caused by colitis, and increase the ratio of colon weight to colon length. The results showed that Shuidouchi extract could significantly reduce the MPO (myeloperoxidase), NO (nitric oxide), MDA (malondialdehyde) levels and raise the GSH (glutathione) level in colon tissue of colitis mice (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, Shuidouchi extract could significantly decrease the levels of IL-6 (interleukin-6), IL-12, TNF-α (tumor necrosis factor-α) and IFN-γ (interferon-γ) cytokines in serum of mice with colitis (p < 0.05). It can be seen that the extract of Shuidouchi had a good preventive effect on colitis, and the high concentration of Shuidouchi extract had the better preventive effect.
