Title: Analysis of Type of technical scores by stage among Korean, Chinese and Japanese National Men"s Table Tennis Players using the Three-Phase Evaluation Theory
Abstract: This study applies the three-phase evaluation theory to analyze the categorial differences in type of technical scores by stage of male table tennis players by country. To achieve the goals of the study of Korean, Chinese and Japanese National Men’s Table Tennis Players were examined. Four players from each national team were selected and competition data from the previous three years were analyzed. Twenty competitions per player and 80 competitions from each team were analyzed, equaling a total of 240 competitions. The results of the study are as follows.BR First, an examination of the categorical differences in type of technical scores by stage of Korean, Chinese and Japanese male table tennis players by country using the three-phase evaluation theory suggests that among the first and third balls, the sidespin serve resulted in the greatest points for the first ball. For the third ball, the topspin technique resulted in the greatest points and the forehand drive technique led to more points than the backhand drive technique. The greatest number of points were conceded using the topspin from the forehand technique. Among the backhand techniques, the Korean and Chinese male table tennis teams possessed the best topspin and the Japanese male table tennis team possessed the best backhand defense.BR Second, For the second and fourth balls, the forehand cut and the forehand drive techniques most commonly led to greater points for the second ball. Among the backhand techniques, the backhand drive and the backhand cut techniques were the most common. The greatest number of points were conceded by the Chinese male table tennis team when using the forehand drive technique and by the Korean and Japanese male table tennis teams when using the forehand cut technique. Among the backhand techniques, the backhand drive was the most common. Among the forehand and backhand techniques, the topspin resulted in more points and the defense technique resulted in the greatest number of point concessions for the fourth ball.BR Third, After the fourth ball, the greatest number of points were awarded using the drive technique among the forehand and backhand techniques.BR The greatest number of points were conceded using the forehand drive for the Chinese and Korean male table tennis players and using the defense technique for the Japanese male table tennis players. Among the backhand techniques, the defense technique was the most commonly used.
