Heat shock protein 27 (HSP27) also known as heat shock protein beta-1 (HSPB1) is a small molecular weight HSP that in humans is encoded by the HSPB1 gene. HSP27 exerts its effect mainly in the form of phosphorylation activity, and has a variety of important biological functions, such as chaperone activity, thermotolerance, anti-oxidation and inhibition of apoptosis. HSP27 was found to be highly expressed in a variety of intestinal diseases. This article reviews the structure, function, mechanism of action of HSP27 and the relationship between HSP27 and intestinal diseases, and explores the clinical value and application prospect of HSP27 in intestinal diseases.
