Title: La “Barra” en los congresos de Colombia y Chile, siglo XIX
Abstract: Este articulo examina el papel de las ‘barras’ (galerías públicas) en los congresos de Colombia en el siglo XIX, con referencias comparativas a otros países latinoamericanos, especialmente a Chile. Después de una breve introducción, analiza diversos aspectos de las ‘barras’. La primera sección ofrece un cuadro de la concurrencia en las galerías y un examen de su composición, con énfasis en su carácter popular. La segunda sección explora el comportamiento de las barras y sus motivos, así como su posible impacto en la tarea de los legisladores. La documentación permite ofrecer algunas reflexiones tentativas y adelantar el siguiente argumento: las “barras” fueron un importante componente de la cultura política desarrollada por algunos países latinoamericanos después de su independencia de España.
