Title: Diesel and diesel-gasoline fuelled premixed low temperature combustion (LTC) engine mode for clean combustion
Abstract: A premixed Low Temperature Combustion (LTC) engine is demonstrated for clean combustion and improved efficiency. The change in fuel injection timing and pressure along with the addition of charge dilution (by hot EGR) allows obtaining the clean combustion with diesel and diesel-gasoline (D-G with gasoline 25% by volume) blend. The engine operation shows a lower rate of pressure rise, fuel consumption, near-zero NOx-soot emissions, and improved engine thermal efficiency. Compared to diesel, D-G shows improved engine characteristics for broad fuel injection timing. The improved air-fuel mixing by early fuel injection and stratification by hot exhaust gas retards the start of ignition and hence, heat release and pressure rise rates. The engine load-carrying capacity can be extended without decreasing the engine performance by using a combination of low and high reactivity fuel.
