Title: Biochemical Studies and Anti-Diabetic Activity for Peels of pomegranate fruits
Abstract: The medical application of pomegranate peels is attracted human beings. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the in vitro pancreatic lipase inhibition, and anti-diabetic activity of Punica granatum (pomegranate) peel and its extract using. The total phenolic compounds were determined of Punica granatum extract. HPLC analysis indicated the presence of some polyphenolic compounds which, responsible for their therapeutic potential. 10% peels of Punica granatum (PPP) reduced level of total Proteins and albumin. A significant increase in HDL-c but decrease in LDL-c level was observed compared to induced control. In histopathological study 10% peels of Punica granatum showed minimal to mild multifocal and diffuse granular degeneration and mild to moderate lobular disarray compared to control group. Inhibition of lipase was more significant using 1mL of Punica granatum extract (PGE). Keywords: Punica granatum L. ; anti-diabetic activity; HPLC; total phenolics
