Title: An empirical evaluation on impact of functional competency on performance of kenyan manufacturing sector
Abstract: The manufacturing sector is a significant driver of economic expansion. Kenya as a developing country is one of the fastest emerging global manufacturing bases with a large number of firms shifting their manufacturing base to the country due to cheap labor, good supplier(s) base and its central position in East Africa. This study conducted an empirical survey among Kenyan manufacturing firms to understand how manufacturing competency impact the firm performance. It has been observed that manufacturing competency has negative impact on firm performance which is contradicting with the so far empirical studies conducted in European, Japanese and American countries. This study provides in depth analysis to explain this negative impact and how this can lead to positive impact.
