Abstract: Lange war es still gewesen um die Geschichte des internationalen Rechts. Als «Aschenputtel der Disziplin» hatte Georg Schwarzenberger die Völkerrechtsgeschichte 1952 bezeichnet. Die Jahrzehnte des Kalten Krieges waren auch für Geschichte und Theorie des Völkerrechts eine Eiszeit. Das hat sich seit der Jahrtausendwende geändert. Die Ernüchterung über die Unzulänglichkeiten der «Neuen Weltordnung», die nach 1989 vielerorts vollmundig annonciert worden war, brachte eine Wendung zur historischen Reflexion. Unter den Vorzeichen grundlegenden Wandels hat die Völkerrechtsgeschichte in den vergangenen zehn Jahren einen veritablen Boom erlebt.
