Title: Study of Friction and Wear Behaviour of Epoxy/Nano SiO2 based Polymer Matrix Composites- A Review
Abstract: Composites is one of the most advanced and adaptable engineering materials due to their high strength to weight ratio, simple fabrication process and low cost. Composite are showing an excellent strength, hardness and wear resistance. Friction & wear behaviour of the polymer composites have been investigated by the various test methods. Composites are heterogeneous and created by the assembly of two or more components with fillers or reinforcing fibers and a compatible matrix. The neat resin is showing the lowest mechanical properties and when the silica contents are increasing in the composites, the mechanical properties such as toughness, stiffness and strength are also increases. The thermal conductivity, friction and wear resistance is also increased due to the types and weight percent of the filler. The aim of the present paper is to review the current studies on the analysis of mechanical and tribological properties of the Polymer Matrix Composites and their applications in engineering field.
