Title: Effect of tube layout on the performance of shell and tube heat exchangers
Abstract: In modern industrial era heat transfer management has been given a prime importance in order to achieve an efficient system. The shell and tube type heat exchangers are the most prominently used heat transfer equipments. The design of shell and tube heat exchanger requires a balanced approach between the thermal design and pressure drop. Whereas, most of the times the shell and tube heat exchangers are designed by compromising between heat transfer and pressure drop depending on the applications. Hence, it is very important to optimize the heat exchanger design. The analysis of shell and tube heat exchangers can be divided into two parts viz. shell side analysis and tube side analysis. Shell side analysis is complicated because of many parameters involved in the analysis and tube layout is one of the key parameters. In this paper an attempt is made to understand the effect of tube layouts on the performance of the shell and tube heat exchangers.
