Title: Concomitant Severe Carotid and Coronary Artery Disease: A Separate Management or Concomitant Approach
Abstract: An electronic search of MEDLINE, Scopus, EMBASE, and Ovid from their inception until August 2018 was conducted. Eleven studies including 67,953 patients were compared reporting staged CEA followed by CABG (29,522 patients) versus concomitant CEA/CABG (38,614 patients) for patients with greater than 80% carotid artery stenosis. There were significantly higher perioperative stroke (3.6% vs 2.8%) and mortality (4.3% vs 3.6%) rates and 30-day mortality (4.4% vs 3.6%) in the concomitant group than in patients who underwent CEA followed by CABG at a later date. Length of stay was significantly shorter in the concomitant group (11.9 vs 12.6 days).
