Title: Development and Stratigraphy of Three Rooker Bar; A Recently Emergent Barrier Island, Pinellas County, Florida
Abstract: The emergence of Three Rooker Bar over the past 22 years has presented a unique opportunity to document, through a combination of aerial photography and field observations, the depositional processes and morphologic changes associated with the formation of the island. Three Rooker Bar is situated within the only major gap in the otherwise continuous barrier island coast of Pinellas County Florida, between Honeymoon Island and Anclote Key. The island is bounded to the west by the eastern Gulf of Mexico and by the relatively shallow St. Joseph Sound to the east. The island first became emergent in 1969, although much of its growth has occurred within the last few years. It is essentially pristine and undeveloped, approximately 2 km long and nearly 20 m at its widest spot. The island has a stable, vegetated back beach and dune complex, extensive shoals off the southern end and well developed algal covered tidal flats which overly back barrier washover deposits.
