Title: Analysis of Maize Germplasm Foundation and Heterosis Model in Liaoning Province
Abstract: The maize germplasm in Liaoning province could be classed into 6 clusters, including Luda Red Cob(LRC), Improved Reid, derived from exotic hybrids, PN, Lancaster and Sipingtou. Analyzing the heterosis model of registered maize varieties and the main varieties planted in different ecoregions in two decades. The results showed that the improved Reid ×LRC had been most widely used among many heterosis, which suggested that LRC germplasm play a dominant role in Liaoning maize breeding. But in Liaoning province, the genetic foundation of maize was narrow, and the breeding method was single. In order to improve the level of breeding, adapt the needs of the development of maize production, Urgent need to reinforce exchanges and cooperation with domestic and foreign, broaden germplasm resources, update ideas, and clear future breeding objectives, using the methods of advanced techniques combined with traditional breeding to create new germplasm.
