It focuses on research which attempts to explain the factors driving change and the consequences of that change, and also identifies gaps in the literature where more research is needed. The book consists of seven chapters. The introductory chapter sets the scene by providing a broad overview of the major changes that have occurred, highlighting the distinctive features of Australian labour markets. In chapters two to six, research concerned with explaining and analysing the nature and impact of these changes is reviewed, covering issues such as changes in labour supply, labour demand and labour market institutions, the nature of labour market adjustment processes and its implications for efficiency, and finally the impact of change on equity. The concluding chapter brings together the main issues and areas still in need of research. It contains the following sections: The changing Australian labour market: an overview / Keith Norris and Mark Wooden; Labour supply / Peter Kenyon and Mark Wooden; Labour demand / Philip Lewis and Andrew Seltzer; Labour market institutions / Charles Mulvey and Judith Sloan; Do labour markets adjust? / Philip Lewis and Russell Ross; Equity / Jeff Borland and Keith Norris; Concluding remarks / Keith Norris and Mark Wooden.Read More
