'Learning theory' is the name given to systematic efforts to clarify the processes and principles underlying learning. Learning theories give teachers new ways to understand learning and new techniques and strategies to apply in teaching situations. Although learning has been formally researched for well over a century, there is still a lot of debate about what really goes on when people learn. As a result, there are now many theories of learning available for teachers to draw on. In this chapter, [the reader] will be introduced to some of the main theories of learning.
