With types of violence organized by three major groupings of life stages, the research illustrates the extent to which women’s own characteristics; those of their partners, households, and communities; the failure of institutions; and rigidly patriarchal social norms all create a dynamic landscape of risks and potential protection for women’s vulnerability to myriad forms of violence in South Asia.
