Title: Feedback strategies for a sign language learning system
Abstract: This PhD research developed and evaluated for the first
time an interactive system (MIC) that assists parents learning sign
language to begin to communicate with their hearing-impaired
children. MIC is the first system in the world that can provide
different types of visual feedback on performance of sign
language learners in the absence of human teachers. Much work
remains to be done, but we anticipate that as the technology
and research in this area develops, it will one day become increasingly
accessible for parents, including those living in remote places, to learn sign language.
