Title: Exploring edible glucomannan from aroids plants
Abstract: This thesis aimed to search for edible glucomannan from possible Aroids plants. Amorphophallus konjac has been a source of glucomannan for the past many years. Glucomannan has been found to have many health related benefits. In this research, Amorphophallus pranii, Colocasia esculenta and Alocasia macrorrhizos corms had been taken for research. From this study, glucomannan may be presence in these three (3) types of plant species. The extracted compound showed no similar reaction as the KGM standard when tested for glucomannan presence. The extracted compound also have starchpresence. The result was confirmed using FTIR to study the characteristic of the samples.
