Title: Complex Demodulation Techniques for Experiments on Traveling-Wave Convection
Abstract: Near onset, convection in binary fluid mixtures in a one-dimensional geometry is dominated by the interaction between oppositely-propagating traveling waves. In this paper, we explore the use of shadowgraphic flow visualization and complex demodulation techniques to extract the spatiotemporal behavior of these waves. These techniques can allow a quantitative comparison with theories based on coupled complex Ginzburg-Landau equations.
