Title: FACTORS AFFECTING IMPLEMENTATION OF PRODUCT QUALITYSTANDARDS IN MEDIUM ENTERPRISES IN KENYA: A CASE STUDY OFKENAFRIC INDUSTRIES LIMITED
Abstract: This research study sought to identify the factors that affect implementation of product
quality standards in medium enterprises in Kenya with reference to the
KenafricIndustriesLimited. The specific objectives of the study were to determine the
effects of information technology, employee competence, and cost and to establish the
effect of top management support on implementation of product quality standards in
medium enterprises in Kenya. This study will be significant to the management of
Kenafric IndustriesLimited and other researchers. The researcher adopted descriptive
research design. The design was preferred because it is concerned with answering
questions such as who, what, which, how, when and how much. Questionnaires were
used to collect primary data. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used for
analysis and data was presented in tables and figures. The study covered a population
of fifty two (52) employees from three departments in the company and used census
where the entire target population formed the sample size.From the study findings,
93% of the respondents agreed that information technology affects implementation of
product quality standards in medium enterprises whereas 95% of respondent indicated
that competition affects implementation of product quality standards in medium
enterprises. Eighty six percent agreed that employee competence affects
implementation of product quality standards in medium enterprises whereas 95%
indicated that cost does affect the implementation of product quality standards in
medium enterprises. Seventy nine percent agreed that top management support affects
implementation of product quality standards in medium enterprises while 21%
disagreed. It was recommended that the Kenafric Industries Ltd should invest more
in activities that can lead to improved output of employees and also ensure a qualityoriented
organizational culture supported by the quality assurance department. The
organization must ensure continuous employee development and training on quality
management and also take the appropriate steps to improve its processes. The top
management must play a leading role by making available the critical resources,
establishing an organization wide quality policy.
