Title: Research of Conflicts at Signalized Intersection and Safety Evaluation
Abstract: Aiming at pedestrian safety at signalized intersection, this paper investigate potential crashes between pedestrians and vehicles by applying traffic conflict techniques. First, based on the behavioral characteristics of pedestrians, and combined with the characteristics of the conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles at intersections, this paper conducted the risk degree model - SOMK. Then, this paper collects pedestrians and vehicles conflict data at sub peak period and rush hour in three signalized intersections in Weihai City based the manual video observation method. Finally, using these conflict data to calculate evaluation indicators TTC, PET, and DST and risk degree. The process of analysis of the danger of pedestrian crossing conflicts. The results show that the frequency and severity of conflicts differs according to different types and the crossing-road pedestrians' behavior also make a difference to the risk degree of different conflict types.
