Title: Studies on propagation of some woody lanscape plants from summer leafy stem cuttings
Abstract: The Present investigation entitled “Studies on propagation of some woody landscape plants from summer leafy stem cuttings” comprised of four experiments.
The first experiment was conducted to study the effect of stem length in relation to different concentrations (0,2000,3000 and 4000 ppm) of IBA on rooting in semi hardwood cuttings of Osmanthus fragrans Lour. It was observed that application of IBA at 4000 ppm resulted in early emergence of roots, highest root number, longest primary roots and maximum rooting percentage. But the treatments had non significant effect on emergence of new leaves, callusing and survival percentage of cuttings. 8-cm long cuttings produced best root quality as compared to stem length of 4- and 6- cm.
In the second experiment root formation in leafy stem cuttings of Ginkgo biloba L. as influenced by etiolation and IBA treatments (0,2000,4000 and 6000 ppm) was studied. Investigations revealed that the treatments had non significant influence on emergence of new leaves and per cent callusing of cuttings. However, etiolation treatment followed by IBA application of 6000 ppm recorded earlier rooting, highest number and greater length of primary roots and maximum rooting and survival percentage.
The third experiment aimed at finding out the influence of various concentrations (0,600, 800, 1000 and 1200 ppm) of IBA on rooting of Prunus glandulosa Thunb. cuttings. Among all treatments, IBA 1200 ppm proved best in terms of root quality and time taken to root and leaf emergence.
The fourth experiment was conducted to evaluate the rooting behaviour of Aloysia triphylla Britt. in response to different levels. (0,200, 400, 600 and 800 ppm) of IBA. The treatments had non significant effect on per cent callusing and field survival of cuttings. However, IBA 600 ppm proved superior as compared to other IBA treatments inducing best rooting, early emergence of roots and leaves and produced highest number with greater length of primary roots.
