Abstract: We conceived the idea of this dissertation while we were studying at the department of Electrical Engineering of the Technological Education Institute of Piraeus. While we were delving into our field of science, through exercising in the laboratories, we discovered that receiving, understanding and processing of the details we receive from each laboratory experiment are of a substantial meaning. Various measuring devices are used such as voltmeter, amperometer, and oscilloscope in order for us to receive those details. Thus, each measuring device is elementary for anyone studying in this field.
The measuring current could be either Alternate (AC) or Direct (DC). Generally, we can easily gauge various quantities like current, voltage, resistant and power by using a multimeter. The quantities are depicted on the latter on their active form. As we already know though, in electrology there is not only that form. Oscilloscope is a principal tool for every electrical engineer. Digital signals that are changing overtime can be displayed on the oscilloscope’s screen. Such a size is alternating voltage as well. Measures we can take, using this tool, on the frequency, average voltage, the period and other voltage’s parameters. On the other hand, oscilloscope has its own flaws, like every measuring device has. High cost make oscilloscope’s purchasing almost impossible nowadays. Thus, in the course of this dissertation we introduce the way to receive measurements through our personal computer.
Generally, what an oscilloscope does, is converting an analog signal into digital, so we can measure it. Computer’s analog input (microphone input) follows suit. That input though, cannot accept a voltage of more than 5Volt because there is a riskof damageto the valuable motherboard of our computer. On our dissertation we are presenting extensively the pattern that transforming Voltage into an appropriate form, in order to measure it on our personal’s computer screen. We are presenting the software we are going to use as well. We hope that this project will eventually come to fruition in order to be used by the students of the department for measurements but also be used by the department laboratories as well.
