Title: Biocontrol potential of UV-induced mutants of Trichoderma harzianum against Fusarium solani causing rhizome rot of ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc.)
Abstract: Attempts have been made to enhance the biocontrol potentiality of Trichoderma harzianum Rifai by exposing the spores to UV radiation. UV treatment yielded four mutants which were tested against benomyl sensitive and resistant isolates of Fusarium solani causing rhizome rot of ginger. Trichoderma mutants showed significant inhibitory effect on radial growth of both the isolates of F. solani as compared to wild T. harzianum. Maximum growth inhibition was observed with UVTh-3 followed by UVTh-2, UVTh-4 and UVTh-1. Resistant isolate showed higher inhibition when compared with sensitive isolate of F. solani.
