Title: Rasprostranjenost pajasena (Ailanthus altissima (Mill.) Swingle) na području Osijeka
Abstract: Croatian urban areas are suitable places for the development of many invasive plant species,
including the tree of heaven, Ailanthus altissima (Miller) Swingle. During the research, 130
sites in Osijek where the trees of Ailanthus altissima grow individually or in groups were
recorded. Ailanthus altissima usually grows on abandoned places in suburban areas, industrial
zones and near the railway lines. The trees of Ailanthus altissima are rare on well-maintained
areas. Along with Ailanthus altissima there are many perennial herbaceous plants which grow
on poorly shaded habitats, characterized by warm and moderately acid soils, with low
nitrogen content, belonging to the hemicrocytophyte or terophyte life form. Tree of heaven is
easily adaptable to new habitats and various ecological conditions, so it spreads
uncontrollably. Hence, it is very important to establish measures to control the spreading of
this invasive species.
