Abstract: The Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications' R&D programmes and projects are carried out in broad cooperation with municipalities, enterprises, government departments within the Ministry's administrative sector, universities and research institutes. The results are actively utilised and the information is systematically disseminated. The R&D results form a basis for the Ministry's vision, goal setting and strategy implementation. Projects act as information foundations that produce ideas and direct the operations in different stages of the Ministry's decision-making processes. The results are applied to a high degree in the fields of transport and infrastructure policy and information society and communications policy. In 2007 a total of 5.6 million euros were allocated for that purpose. The sum multiplied through the finance cooperation with the administrative sector and interest groups. The Ministry commissions long-term and comprehensive R&D programmes and a range of smaller projects. The annual number of programme-related and individual projects amounts to 200. This report outlines the results of R&D activities commissioned by the Ministry in 2006. The results are represented according to programmes and projects. Further information on all of these can be obtained from the contact persons or the Ministry's and programmes' web pages and publications.
