Abstract: The 2005 Egypt Demographic and Health Survey (2005 EDHS) interviewed a nationally representative sample of 19474 ever-married women age 15-49. The survey is the eighth in a series of Demographic and Health Surveys conducted in Egypt. As in previous surveys the main purpose of the 2005 EDHS was to provide detailed information on fertility family planning infant and child mortality maternal and child health and nutrition. The survey also collected information on the levels of knowledge of infectious diseases including HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C. In addition the 2005 EDHS included anemia testing and special modules on child labor domestic violence and female circumcision. (excerpt)
