Title: Exil, procédé textuel et stratégie de traduction. Der Ausflug der toten Mädchen d’Anna Seghers au prisme de différentes traductions
Abstract: Taking the concept of literature founded on speech-act theory as a basis, we have tried to explain whether – and if so, how and to what extent – various translators of Anna Seghers’Der Ausflug der toten Mädchen (The Excursion of the Dead Girls) have been able to successfully transmit specific textual devices found in this text into their respective target languages. To this end, we have combined textual analysis with history and reception aesthetics as well as with translation theory and practical criticism of translation. A detailed comparative analysis of certain selected passages from the two French translations by both Joël Lefebvre (whose 1956 and 1993 editions vary slightly) and Hélène Roussel (2006) reveals the difficulties of such translation work, last not least due to the different tense systems of French and German.
