The focus of this study is on presenting and analyzing the hi...In this study phonological processes of Sorani dialect in Kurdish language which are spoken by people who live in Saqqez are investigated. The focus of this study is on presenting and analyzing the high frequency of phonological processes of Kurdish language such as deletion, insertion, lenition, assimilation, compensatory lengthening, and metathesis. Among linguistics theories one that has specific consideration toward phonological processes in various languages is Optimality Theory. Optimality Theory is a linguistics pattern which stands on the hypothesis that language representations result from interactions of faithfulness and markedness constrains. Analyzing phonological processes of Kurdish language in the area of the Saqqez, extracting this language's constrains, also ranking constrains based on the data are the main goals of this study. Data are collected from one of the dialects of Kurdish language, Sorani, and the method is descriptive and analytic. The corpus of the study is collected in two ways, documentary and based on the speakers of Kurdish language. After presenting and classifying the data, they are analyzed based on Optimality Theory. The results of this study show us that each phonological process in Sorani dialect of Kurdish language follows the specific constrains with various ranking. Optimality Theory always justifies phonological processes in different languages, it can properly justifies Kurdish phonological process as well.Read More
