In WMSN, sensors equipped with multimedia devices are self-powered using batteries. However, multimedia data collection, processing and transmission process consumes large amount of energy. Considering image as a data used in WMSN, the size of the image captured by CMOS camera is large. Hence, transmission of a raw image contains large number of bytes resulting in more power consumption of the camera nodes. The most functional solution to reduce power consumption due to processing and transmission of large sized image is image compression, which minimize the numbers of bytes needed to transmit in WMSN. In this paper, we have proposed a distributed image compression method which gives high compression ratio. Simulation results shows that our proposed distributed image compression method when applied in clustered network, balances energy consumption and prolong the network lifetime when compared with existing and centralized image compression method.Read More
