Abstract: Most of the picnic structures in six north-central states studied were constructed of wood. Service life of structure varied greatly. Vandalism and decay were the major reasons for repairing and replacing picnic tables. More than half the tables were made by the recreation agencies themselves. These results describe a market that existing and potential wood industries may be overlooking. Results will enable potential and existing manufacturers and suppliers to better delineate markets.
