Title: Effects of Operation Time for Well Control on Kick Influx and Pressure Behavior in a Wellbore
Abstract: Gas kick during drilling operation threatens the wellbore stability by causing additional pressure increase. It can be worsen when kick influx increases caused by inadequate kick detecting capability in relevant equipments and additional well control time.Previous researches had common limitations of not considering operation time in variety of drilling environments up to sufficient extent. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of operation time on the kick influx and pressure behaviors. In this study, supplementary operation time for kick detection, control, and removal was considered as the main input for an well control simulator, then analyzed for the required time in every well control step. Also, allowable time for kill mud mixing which could keep the wellbore stability was estimated when removing gas kick by using the Engineer's method.
