Title: GREEK TRAGEDY ELEMENTS IN A. N. OSTROVSKY’S PLAY “THE STORM”
Abstract: In the article, the author reveals and analyzes the protoscenic elements of Greek tragedy in A. N. Ostrovsky’s drama “The Storm”, such as a sacred place, a sacrifice, prophecies, and a song of the choir. All of them create tense atmosphere in the introduction, climax and denouement of the play, giving a tragic sound to the drama of everyday life. The observations are important both for clarifying the genre of the play “The Storm” - a drama with the elements of tragedy, and for the better understanding of the reform of drama and theater that was carried out by A. N. Ostrovsky: he introduced not only new features into drama, but also resurrected archaic elements, referring to the origins of dramatic art.
