Title: Random Grid Based Extended Visual Secret Sharing Scheme for Image Authentication
Abstract: To protect the secret image, many cryptographic encryption schemes have been proposed. Visual Secret Sharing Scheme is an extreme secure encryption scheme, having an additional advantage of using no decryption scheme, but the secret image can be decrypted just with the help of the human visual system. Most of the existing Visual Secret Sharing Schemes(VC) schemes do not provide efficient authentication abilities and the existing VC schemes having authentication abilities, either suffer from pixel expansion or a low detection rate. Also the Random Grid(RG) based VC schemes suffer from meaningless shares and low visual quality of the received secret image. In the proposed work, these shortcomings have been considered and improved. A novel (k, n) visual secret sharing scheme with additional abilities of authentication has been proposed. n random grids are generated from the secret image into which the authentication bits are added. The authentication bits are generated with the help of a very efficient cryptographic hash function, SHA-256. Then these shares are converted into meaningful share images, which are more easy to handle and ensure security. At the time of retrieval, the consistency of the authentication code of all share images are first verified which helps in detecting if the received image is tampered or not. If it is tampered, the retrieval of hidden information is forbidden else k out of n share images are superimposed to recover the secret image. The contrast of the received secret image has been improved by employing XOR operation at the time of superimposition. The proposed scheme proves to be a secure and effective visual secret sharing scheme for image authentication. The feasibility of the proposed scheme has been proved and showed with the help of the experimental results.
