I gratefully acknowledge the members of my committee, Mary Louise Goehring and Nancy Ross for their suggestions, comments, support throughout this process.
A number of registered nurses enrolled in graduate studies at the University of Tampa, as well as staff members of the Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Tampa General Hospital and the Post Anesthesia Care Unit at University Community Hospital willingly participated in the pilot testing of the scales used in this research. I offer my thanks for your assistance.
My thanks and gratitude go to Arnez Wotring, friend and classmate, for her willingness to listen and comment on my ideas and thoughts during the proposal development stages as well as her constructive comments on the final report of this research.
Finally, to the 98 registered nurses who took the time to complete the survey and return it
to me, I offer my appreciation. Without each of them, this research would not have been possible.
