Title: Competencies Essential for School Media Specialists
Abstract: A study was conducted to see which of the 62 competencies selected as essential for school media specialists by professional leaders were also considered essential by teachers, principals, and media specialists. A total of 21 competencies met Florida Council on Teacher Education criteria for an essential competency; 42 did not. Competencies considered essential were from such areas as library organization and management, library services, and instruction. Competencies not rated essential were from such areas as curriculum planning, research, audiovisual production, communication, networking, and some management functions.
