Title: ETHNIC STEREOTYPES IN ENGLISH POLITICAL DISCOURSE
Abstract: The article deals with the notion “ethnic stereotype” and its functioning in еру mass media political discourse. In the framework of cognitive linguistics, the stereotype is an element of the linguocultural worldview and is an integral part of the mechanisms of reality categorization. By the example of political texts headlines in the English-language media, the notions “auto- and heterostereotype” are revealed. Particular attention is paid to the headlines of the English-language media texts devoted to the image of Russia. Basing on the analyzed political articles, the reader can form the idea of the stereotype “contemporary Russia” being created by the English-language media at the present moment.
