Abstract: The antisocial–psychopathic personality disorder can be understood as a lifelong externalizing disorder. The purpose of this chapter is to review much of what is known about the antisocial–psychopathic personality disorder. The chapter begins with a discussion of alternative conceptualizations of this personality disorder, including whether such traits as fearlessness and boldness should be included and the concept of a successful psychopath. This discussion is then followed by a consideration of its forensic assessment, comorbidity (particularly with narcissism, substance use disorder, and criminality), etiology, pathology, course, and treatment.
