Abstract: In this chapter, bioleaching processes for extraction of copper and uranium from their ores and concentrates are illustrated. Microorganisms and biooxidation reactions pertaining to copper and uranium dissolution from different minerals are discussed along with controlling parameters. Heap, dump and "in situ" bioleach operations are highlighted with industrial examples. Stirred tank bioleaching for copper- and uranium-containing concentrates is brought out stressing beneficial aspects such as enhanced leaching kinetics. Modern developments in heap bioleaching of metal concentrates, high-temperature heaps, as well as process controls are discussed.
