Yet we know very little about this identity-based leadership, when it will occur and what outcomes it will create. This symposium explores the power of internalizing a leader identity by (1) deepening current understanding of how leader identity impacts ongoing leader development (2) theorizing how leader identity interfaces with self-regulation and motivation to lead to produce specific leader behaviors (e.g., transformational leadership) (3) presenting new data on the complexities of leader identity among a growing class of Òrole-lessó nomadic global professionals and (4) shedding light on important behavioral outcomes of embracing a leader identity. Papers in this symposium employ a wide variety of methodologies and samples to unearth new insights about the nature of leader identity. Presenting scholars have a shared purpose of encouraging thought and discussion about the true significance of seeing oneself as a leader.
