Title: A traffic engineering framework for maximizing network revenue in software defined network
Abstract: Increased Internet access by users is creating a burden on the network resources. The limited network resources make network management obstreperous. Network providers have to consider not only the user demands but also the pricing policy for maximising their revenue generated from the network, which makes network management challenging. Software Defined Network (SDN) decouples the controlling ability from the forwarding devices. In our work, we aim to maximize the revenue generated for the service providers via a priority based traffic engineering framework in SDN. The framework accepts the users Quality of Service (QoS) demands, their pricing plans and the network constraints to manage the network flow such that revenue collected from the users can be maximised. We designed a path assignment scheme that supports network constraints and user request priorities. As part of our future work, we plan on improving the path assignment scheme by using machine learning models in path selection. The proposed framework is yet to be compared with existing traffic engineering solutions.
