Title: Proximal and Distal Margin Examples from the Eastern Continental Passive Margin of India
Abstract: This chapter presents examples of different structures from proximal and distal margins in the East Indian passive margin. It presents uninterpreted dip-oriented reflection seismic profile through the transition between oceanic crust and proto-oceanic crust (exhumed continental lithospheric mantle) in the East Indian offshore. A fault that accommodates the differential movement between uplifting buoyant continental margin and subsiding dense proto-oceanic crust with portion of extensional allochthon during the early post-breakup history is the seventh fault from the toe of the continental margin. The extensional allochthon formed by the upper-crustal fault blocks on top of the continental mantle, located oceanwards of the pull-apart basin (pab), indicating transtensional character of the transform fault. Strike-slip faults landwards of the pull-apart basin seem to be detached at the upper levels of the lower crust.
