Interviewing the patient can provide information regarding the patients' concerns and expectations from treatment. Quality-of-life scales, generic as well as dermatology-specific instruments like DLQI and Skindex have been used to quantify the psychosocial burden of vitiligo. Recently, vitiligo-specific scales such as VIS, VIS-22, Vitiqol and VLQI have been validated for this purpose. Providing information regarding vitiligo and clearing misconceptions can reduce psychological distress in many patients, while psychological interventions such as cognitive behavioural therapy may be undertaken in those more severely affected.
