Title: Developing the Concept of Structured Ground in Gestalt Theory and Practice
Abstract: Abstract Kjønstad (2016) has recently revisited the concept of “structured ground” which was originally introduced by Wheeler (1991) and suggests that it may be a useful conceptual tool. Though I am in agreement with Kjønstad, I believe that further articulation of the concept is needed in order for it to be of clinical use in a Gestalt setting. This article provides theoretical suggestions regarding how to conceptualize a framework for structured ground based upon Kegan's developmental theory, as well as a case illustration of how it might be applied.
